{"id":636,"date":"2013-12-30T18:01:19","date_gmt":"2013-12-30T23:01:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/blogger\/?p=636"},"modified":"2014-04-14T17:06:59","modified_gmt":"2014-04-14T21:06:59","slug":"allergyhome-2013-year-in-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/blogger\/allergyhome-2013-year-in-review\/","title":{"rendered":"AllergyHome 2013 Year in Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>2013 was a great year for food allergy and anaphylaxis awareness<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Our community has seen great gains this year and food allergies have been in the national spotlight.\u00a0\u00a0We&#8217;ve seen the passage of laws\u00a0supporting stock epinephrine in schools\u00a0and the recent release of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/healthyyouth\/foodallergies\/pdf\/13_243135_A_Food_Allergy_Web_508.pdf\">CDC\u2019s Voluntary Guidelines on Managing Food Allergies in Schools and Early Care and Education Programs<\/a>. So much good has happened.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><!--more-->AllergyHome experienced amazing growth in 2013<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/blogger\/files\/2013\/10\/AllergyHome-blue-logo-transparent-background-200x200.png\" rel=\"wp-prettyPhoto[636]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7\" alt=\"AllergyHome.org\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/blogger\/files\/2013\/10\/AllergyHome-blue-logo-transparent-background-200x200.png\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/blogger\/files\/2013\/10\/AllergyHome-blue-logo-transparent-background-200x200.png 200w, https:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/blogger\/files\/2013\/10\/AllergyHome-blue-logo-transparent-background-200x200-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/blogger\/files\/2013\/10\/AllergyHome-blue-logo-transparent-background-200x200-55x55.png 55w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>The two of us have spent countless nights, weekends, and pre-dawn mornings working towards our unfunded mission, to help keep children with food allergies happy and safe, by providing food allergy education to all who care for them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>Collaboration has been key to who we are and what we do<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">We have developed strong relationships with Kids with Food Allergies Foundation, Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, Anaphylaxis Canada, AAFA New England, Allergy and Asthma Network- Mothers of Asthmatics and others. \u00a0We are grateful for the incredible support from clinic and school nurses, advocates, educators, families, and friends in the blogging world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>What&#8217;s to come<\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">We are looking forward to the new year. \u00a0It will be one of collaborations, new contributors, \u00a0and community. \u00a0\u00a0Stay tuned for this and the launch of an exciting new section to AllergyHome.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It has been our honor and pleasure to be part of this amazing food allergy community. We wish you all a happy and safe 2014!<\/p>\n<p>Best,<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/schools\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\">AllergyHome<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/blogger\/files\/2013\/11\/Depositphotos_26229137_s.jpg\" rel=\"wp-prettyPhoto[636]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-395 alignright\" title=\"AllergyHome 2013 Accomplishments\" alt=\"AllergyHome 2013 Accomplishments\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/blogger\/files\/2013\/11\/Depositphotos_26229137_s-199x300.jpg\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/blogger\/files\/2013\/11\/Depositphotos_26229137_s-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/blogger\/files\/2013\/11\/Depositphotos_26229137_s.jpg 577w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a>Here\u2019s \u00a0a recap of some of our accomplishments in 2013:<\/h1>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/schools\" target=\"_blank\">Schools.AllergyHome<\/a>:<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We have updated <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/blogger\/cdc-food-allergy-guidelines\/\" target=\"_blank\">our school resources <\/a>to match the recommendations of the CDC guidelines and are honored at being listed as a resource in this guidance document.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>School staff Training Resources: Since the beginning of this school year the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/schools\/management-of-food-allergies-in-school-what-school-staff-need-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\"> staff training module<\/a> has been viewed over 20,000 times. \u00a0Our resources have been used by school nurses and schools in every state.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Massachusetts School Nurse Research Network study showed there were statistically significant improvements in staff knowledge, confidence and attitude after viewing the module (2nd edition) and the study was presented at the National Association of School Nurse National Conference and the New England Society of Allergy Annual Conference.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Social Media:<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Over the past year, supporters like you have followed us on facebook, and our &#8220;likes&#8221; have grown over 600% in 2013. \u00a0We kept up with almost daily posts and launched social media campaigns that included our pop culture and myth vs. fact postings. \u00a0The most popular posts had a reach over 50,000.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>AllergyHome Blog:<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Recently we took to writing blogs where we can share perspectives, resources, and the perspectives of colleagues and others. The AllergyHome blog will be a major focus in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Living Confidently with Food Allergy Handbook:<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allergyhome.org\/handbook\/\" target=\"_blank\">Living Confidently With Food Allergy \u00a0<\/a>was co-authored by Michael Pistiner, Jenny LeBovidge and Anaphylaxis Canada.
