Handy reference for playdates, birthday parties, and other drop-off situations.<\/p>\n\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"text\"><b>Be patient as others try to learn about your child\u2019s allergies<\/b>. \u00a0Food allergy may be new to them.\u00a0 Take the time to explain why certain steps are necessary to prevent an allergic reaction and what to do in an emergency.\u00a0 Use language that is easy to understand and keep in mind possible cultural and age differences in people\u2019s understanding of allergy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\"><b>Speak in a calm manner. <\/b>\u00a0You should explain that although food allergies are serious, they can be managed.\u00a0Be open to answering questions and talking about concerns that others may have.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\"><b>Avoid using scare tactics or high emotion to convince others to take allergies seriously. <\/b>\u00a0Such tactics will probably have a negative effect.\u00a0 People may think that you are over-reacting or feel uncomfortable taking care of your child.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\"><b>If you are having difficulty getting someone to understand or take your child\u2019s allergies seriously, try a different approach. <\/b>\u00a0There may be times when you feel others \u201cjust don\u2019t get it\u201d, no matter what you say or do.\u00a0 This could be due to a number of reasons.
