This 30 minute module is designed to assist the school nurse in staff training of management of life-threatening allergic reactions and increase food allergy awareness for all school staff including teachers, food service personnel, administrators, aides, specialists, coaches, bus drivers, custodians and others.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n

Practically any food can cause a reaction. \u00a0Life threatening reactions can occur with milk, eggs, wheat and others.<\/p>\n

COMMENTARY:<\/h2>\n

In a 2011 study by Gupta and colleagues, although those with peanut and tree nut allergies were most likely to have a history of severe reactions ( 52.4% and 52.5% respectively), those with shellfish (46.8%), soy (42.6%), finned fish (40.6%), wheat (38%), \u00a0milk (31.2%), egg (29.5%) and others also had history of severe reactions. Food allergy policies must take into account that all food allergy must be taken seriously.<\/p>\n
