Bringing food allergy management and awareness to your community

Allergen Restriction Policies

Restricting allergens like peanuts and tree nuts from certain environments has been an approach used by some schools to deal with these particular allergens. There has been debate about the usefulness and effectiveness of these forms of interventions.

SOLUTION:

To understand the implications of allergen restriction policies, schools will need a solid understanding of school food allergy management. Schools will need to clearly define what their restriction is called, what foods are being avoided, where the restrictions apply to, and whether advisory labels for those allergens will be restricted as well. Despite an allergen restriction policy, schools will need to implement food allergy management strategies at all times.
