What is a Food allergy?: Your immune system and IgE antibodies mistakenly recognize food as a danger to your body.
Who gets food allergies?: Anyone can at any age, but risks are higher for those with allergic diseases. Milk, egg, and soy allergies arre typically outgrown, whereas peanut, tree nut, and seafood allergies usually are life-long.  Food allergies and allergic diseases in general are on the rise.
What are symptoms of an allergic reaction?  Symptoms can involve the skin, GI tract, respiratory tract, or the circulatory system.  More information regarding symptoms.  Symptoms can be life-threatening and results in many ER visits and hospitalizations.  Anaphylaxis is a true medical emergency. What is the difference between a food allergy and food intolerance? Food intolerances do not involved the immune system and due to lack of specific enzymes.  Example: Lactose Intolerance.  However, Celiac (often described as “gluten intolerance”) is an immune disease that can lead to serious complications.
What can I do to avoid an allergic reaction to food? Read labels, care with going to restaurants, carry your emergency medication, wear emergency identification jewelry.
