Anaphylaxis is severe life-threatening allergic reaction. It can start with mild symptoms and quickly progress. Epinephrine is a medication that is the 1st line treatment of choice for anaphylaxis. It works quickly but in many cases is temporary. Always have the auto-injectors and the food allergy emergency care plan available. Know how and when to use the auto-injector. Being prepared for allergic reactions is absolutely needed and can be life saving. If a doctor prescribed an auto-injector then all care givers should know how and when to give it and it must be available at all times and in all situations. For more information, see our preparedness teaching module.
